Kapama Buffalo Camp sits inside Kapama Private Game Reserve in the Greater Kruger area near Hoedspruit, on land where lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo all move freely. The camp holds ten luxury tents, each built on an elevated deck between the canopies of old trees that line a seasonal river below. Raised wooden walkways connect the tents to the main lodge, so you move through the tree canopy rather than along the ground.

Each tent takes two guests and has a king-size bed, full en-suite bathroom with bath and shower, air conditioning, a wildlife-viewing deck, and tea and coffee making facilities. Campfires and lantern-lit outdoor dining run alongside those modern comforts — the two sit together without much contradiction.

Two game drives go out daily, led by a ranger and tracker. Because the reserve carries the full Big Five, sightings of all five species are realistic over a two-night stay. Guided bush walks cover animal tracking by footprint and scat, and rangers identify medicinal plants along the route. Night drives, rhino tracking, and a sleep-out platform — an open-air raised bed under mosquito netting — are also available. Wildlife photography workshops, hosted by a professional wildlife photographer, run as a three-night package across the reserve's four lodges.

The spa and wellness centre is at a neighbouring lodge on the same reserve, reached by a short game drive.
