Kapama Karula Lodge

Kapama Karula sits inside Kapama Private Game Reserve, a thirteen-thousand-hectare property in the greater Kruger area near Hoedspruit, Limpopo. The reserve carries the Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo — and the lodge runs two game drives daily, each led by a guide and an assistant guide.

The lodge holds twelve suites. Ten are superior luxury villas, each averaging one hundred square metres, with indoor and outdoor showers, a bath with two basins, a fireplace, a stocked minibar with wines and champagne, and a Nespresso machine. Glass sliding doors open onto a private deck with a full-size heated pool facing the Klaserie River. The remaining two villas are built for families, with a master bedroom, a second en-suite bedroom connected through an interleading door, and an expansive lounge.

Beyond game drives, you can join guided bush walks where rangers teach wildlife tracking using footprints and spoor, and identify medicinal plants along the route. The sleep-out platform offers an overnight stay on an elevated open-air bed on the reserve. The on-site spa has six treatment rooms arranged around a lap pool and uses Dermalogica and Matisse products alongside five African-inspired treatments. Photography workshops run across the reserve, hosted by a professional wildlife photographer and aimed at beginner and intermediate levels.

The lodge is reached from Hoedspruit, the nearest town, via the Kapama Private Game Reserve entrance off the Hoedspruit road.
