King Lewanika Lodge

King Lewanika Lodge sits on the woodland edge of Liuwa Plain National Park in Zambia's Western Province — six open-fronted safari tents positioned to look out over the plain from a shaded tree line. No other permanent camp operates inside the park.

The tents are open at the front, so the plain is visible from the bed and from the private veranda. Rooms have outside showers, mosquito nets, fans, and a safe; a family tent configuration is available for larger groups. The bar, restaurant, and communal areas face the same view across the grassland.

Liuwa Plain is managed by African Parks and has a long relationship with the Lozi people, whose Paramount Chief — the Litunga — proclaimed it a protected area in the early 1880s. The Zambian Carnivore Programme works in the park alongside African Parks, and guides can take guests into the field with both organisations. The park supports large wildebeest herds, cheetah, hyena clans of up to fifty animals, and around three hundred and thirty bird species.

Activities run day and night: game drives, guided walks, night drives, and fly camps for sleeping out on the plain. Kayaking runs on seasonal flood pans in a section free of crocodile and hippo. Cultural and historical tours operate off-site. A private vehicle is available on request, and laundry is included.
