Kwantu Private Game Reserve Luxury Game Lodge

Established in the early nineteenth century on the Sidbury Plains in the Eastern Cape, Kwantu Private Game Reserve occupies six thousand hectares along the Bushman's River, an hour's drive from Nelson Mandela Bay. The reserve was founded by Lieutenant Richard Daniel, who arrived on the Duke of Marlborough with the 1820 British Settlers and named the nearby village of Sidbury after his home in Devonshire. The reserve takes its name from the Xhosa word meaning together or a place of gathering. St Peter's church, built in 1838 within the reserve boundaries, is among the oldest Anglican churches in South Africa.

The reserve is malaria-free and holds Big Five game. Guided drives depart at sunrise and sunset in open Land Rovers. Over 250 bird species have been recorded across the varied biomes. Quad-bike safaris run on designated trails through the bush. Optional night drives track nocturnal species.

Accommodation includes Pollards Inn Hotel, Luxury Bush Lodge, Elephant Ridge, and Lions View Villa. Elephant Ridge rooms sit beside the predator educational and rehabilitation centre; each has two double beds, a separate bathroom with bath and shower, and sleeps four. Luxury Bush Lodge units are located in Big Five territory and designed for couples. Lions View Villa offers a small kitchenette. The reserve has a restaurant serving halaal meals, swimming pools, tennis courts, a cricket field, a lounge overlooking a waterhole, and a prayer room. Wireless internet is complimentary.
