Kweene River Camp

Set along the Kweene River in the western Okavango Delta, this mobile camp sits within the Abu Private Reserve, a stretch of floodplain and swamp habitat with an arid, open feel compared to the seasonal delta further east. Access is by helicopter only. It is a genuinely remote corner of Botswana. Guests move between two private bush sites along the river, travelling on foot, by mokoro when water levels allow, and in custom game drive vehicles, with the pace of the journey shaped by walking rather than fixed routes. Camp itself is kept lightweight but not spare: tents measure 3.5 by 4.6 metres, pitched on steel bedframes with bedrolls made up in Egyptian cotton linen. Hot water is heated for bucket showers, and ice is kept on hand for evening drinks at sunset and sunrise. Walking routes cover ground with little sign of prior foot traffic, and the guide network of game drive tracks has deliberately been kept limited to protect the area. Because the camp accommodates only a single group at a time, sightings of hyena and other wildlife can come at close range. Kweene Trails runs as an exclusive operation, meaning one party has the entire area, guide, vehicle and staff to themselves for the length of the stay.
