Kwetsani Camp

Kwetsani sits on a small palm-fringed island inside the Jao Reserve, a private sixty-three-thousand-hectare concession in the Okavango Delta. The camp reopened in June 2026 after a complete rebuild — six suites still raised on platforms above the floodplains, connected by wooden walkways through the palms, but finished to a higher standard than before. Five are standard suites; one is a family suite built as two bedrooms joined by a shared lounge, configurable as twins or doubles. Every suite is built in canvas, wood and glass, with a sunken lounge, verandah, en-suite bathroom, outdoor shower, and floodplain views. Air-conditioning runs above the beds. The main area — lounge, dining room, bar, pool deck — sits elevated as well, looking out over the same open grasslands.

What you do here changes with the water. In the high-water months, guides take you by boat through the channels, and mokoro excursions move quietly past reed frogs and waterbirds — wattled cranes, slaty egrets, African skimmers, and Pel's fishing-owl among the species recorded in the reserve. When water levels allow, the camp runs catch-and-release fishing, though Botswana law prohibits this in January and February. As the waters recede, access opens to Hunda Island, the largest landmass in the Jao Reserve, where giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, tsessebe, and elephant concentrate alongside lion, leopard, and spotted hyena. Game drives run morning and afternoon in open four-wheel-drive vehicles; night drives go out with spotlights for porcupine, serval, aardwolf, and lesser bushbaby. The open grassland visible from the pool deck draws elephant and red lechwe most afternoons.
