La Riziere
Students cook and serve at La Rizière under the supervision of professional instructors. The hotel operates as a training centre for 130 young people aged 17 to 23, enrolled in four hospitality programmes: cooking, service and bar, reception, and housekeeping leadership. All commercial revenue funds the training, reducing tuition for students from low-income families. The model is an enterprise with a social mandate.
Ten rooms sit on a four-hectare site at the foot of Fianarantsoa's historic quarter, suspended above a green rice valley. Each room holds a private bathroom with toilet and shower, and either a double or twin beds. Some rooms open views across the valley below. Restaurant Le Pavillon occupies a garden pavilion under exposed timber beams, open to surrounding eucalyptus and traveller's palms. The kitchen pairs regional ingredients with seasonal menus; service runs at lunch and dinner. A bar programme in the evening includes cocktails built on local spices, fruit, and spirits, matched with tapas prepared by the student kitchen brigade. Outdoor lounges and a children's play area extend across the grounds. The property accommodates events for 50 seated or more than 200 standing, with catering available off-site. Complimentary internet access and breakfast are provided. Fianarantsoa's old town and surrounding hills lie within walking distance.
