Lagoon

Boat cruises leave from Lagoon Camp's deck in the late afternoon, tracing the Kwando River as it splits into channels, floodplains, and the oxbow lagoons that give the camp its name. In the dry season, elephant and buffalo gather here in herds that can number a thousand, drawn to the water within sight of the main deck. Predators follow the herds, and a resident pack of African wild dogs dens close to camp for much of the year. Set among ebony and marula trees on the riverbank, the camp holds eight tents and one family tent, each with a private deck and a bathroom with both an indoor and an outdoor shower. Gauze walls let guests watch the river from inside the tent, bath included. Hippos are audible after dark. The main area is thatched, raised on two levels, with a bar, a lounge, a dining room, and a library overlooking the water; a swing looks out over the river from the deck below. There is a swimming pool. Fishing runs for ten months of the year, closed in January and February for breeding season. Game drives use open vehicles with a guide and tracker paired together, a Kwando signature. Lagoon airstrip lies about a 15 minute drive from camp, with light aircraft transfers from Maun or Kasane running roughly 50 minutes.
