Lake Chahafi Resort

Lake Chahafi Resort sits directly on the shore of Lake Chahafi, a small lake outside Kisoro in southwestern Uganda, close to the Virunga volcanoes and within reach of two gorilla-tracking destinations. The resort's nine standalone ensuite cabins are built from local materials and arranged on a gently sloping site so that guests can walk from their cabin to the restaurant and the lake without climbing steep paths — a practical detail that makes the layout work for families and older travellers alike.

The cabins come in three configurations: five deluxe doubles with a king bed and an extra single (each about thirty-five square metres), three twin cabins named after birds — crane, heron, and moorhen — and one triple cabin of around fifty-two square metres with three double beds. All rooms have verandahs, mosquito nets, Wi-Fi, and tea and coffee facilities.

The restaurant has a fireplace, a fully stocked bar, and a four-course made-to-order menu with wine and cocktails. Outdoor dining options include a campfire dinner, garden seating, and a lakeside breakfast.

On the water, you can canoe, fish for mirror carp — restocked in 2021 after decades of decline — or join a guided twin-lakes tour that takes in both Lake Chahafi and the neighbouring Lake Kayumbu. The combined lakes cover three-point-two square kilometres and hold a wide range of waterbirds.

For gorilla tracking, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is about one hour by road and issues eight permits per day. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest's southern sectors at Rushaga and Nkuringo are roughly one hour forty-five minutes away. The resort can arrange permits and transport through its activity desk.
