Lalit Heritage Home

Lalit Heritage Home is a guest house set just south of Patan Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in the Nepali city of Lalitpur. The building has been the Maharjan family home for generations, and Santa Man and Matina Maharjan still run it with their sons. Several rooms and the roof terrace look straight onto the 17th-century palace complex and, on clear days, the Himalaya beyond. It is a short walk to the Golden Temple and to the workshops of Patan's metal and wood carvers, a trade the city has practised for centuries. Rooms are simple and vary in size, from single rooms to family rooms sleeping three, each with an attached bathroom, hot shower and Wifi. Room names come from the old toles, or villages, that once stood around Patan, and each carries a note on the craftspeople who lived there. Breakfast is included, and staff can arrange an airport pickup and laundry on request. The bus stand at Lagankhel is a ten-minute walk. Evenings bring wedding processions and temple bells past the window in some rooms; mornings bring the pink sweet sellers to the square below. It remains a family concern, not a chain, and it shows in the welcome.
