Legendary Mwiba Lodge sits on an outcrop of granite boulders above a rocky gorge carved by the Arugusinyai River, in the Shinyanga region of Tanzania. The lodge occupies an exclusive-use protected wildlife area — you will not share the concession with other operators — and the ten tented suites are spread far enough apart that each looks out over candelabra euphorbia and acacia woodland without another structure in the sightline.

The lodge is built into the rock rather than on a cleared pad. The elevation gives the suites long views over the surrounding wilderness: the gorge below, the tree line beyond, and, during the calving season between January and March, the southern movement of wildebeest herds in the wider Serengeti ecosystem. The Serengeti's calving grounds at Ndutu and the southern plains are accessible from Mwiba, placing the lodge within reach of that part of the migration cycle.

The concession covers more than two hundred and twenty one thousand five hundred hectares of wildlife habitat. Rangers and trackers work within that land, so game drives take place on private ground without the vehicle concentrations common in the national park proper.

Transfers to the lodge are by road or light aircraft, with the nearest airstrip serving the concession directly.
