Lodge at The Old Barracks

The Lodge is a set of eight guest rooms above a working restaurant on Cross Street, in the centre of Athenry. The building began life as an RIC barracks and later served the FCA, before Fiona King's family bought it in 1988 and eventually converted it into a restaurant, bakery and guesthouse. The Lodge itself opened in July 2018, after a full restoration of the old structure. Rooms keep king-size beds, wooden floors and locally chosen furnishings; three holiday suites suit longer stays. Breakfast is taken across the road at the Old Barracks Restaurant, and a bakery and pantry sit on the ground floor below, so the smell of fresh bread reaches the stairs most mornings. Athenry Castle and its heritage centre are under five minutes on foot. The town's train station runs regular services into Galway City, about 15 minutes away by rail or road. It is a compact stay, built around a working restaurant rather than a separate hotel operation. Guests can walk to local shops, pharmacies and pubs without crossing a main road, and the Wild Atlantic Way is a short detour from the door. Check-in is arranged directly through the property's own booking channel.
