Makanda by The Sea
Arriving by complimentary golf cart along tiered hillside roads, guests reach one of 33 suites or villas arranged across nine categories on a rainforest slope above Manuel Antonio's Pacific coast. Makanda by the Sea occupies an active ecological corridor where white-faced monkeys, three-toed sloths, toucans, and scarlet macaws pass through canopy and grounds daily. The property admits guests 18 and older. Every accommodation starts at 75 m² and opens onto a private balcony facing west over the ocean; suites begin with the 80-m² Tropical Suite, which incorporates Carrara marble floors, local hardwood furniture, and a balcony swing set 150 metres from the shoreline. Select categories add private plunge pools or outdoor jacuzzis. Árbol Restaurant serves à la carte breakfast — included with direct bookings — and Central Pacific seafood and farm produce for lunch and dinner; floating breakfasts, delivered on trays into private pools, are arranged through reception the evening before. Two infinity pools overlook the forest and ocean. Shanti Spa operates on-site with treatment pavilions; a gym equipped with Technogym machines faces the canopy. A secluded beach, accessible by trail from the property, lies below the main terrace. Manuel Antonio National Park is a ten-minute walk. The concierge arranges catamaran cruises, waterfall visits, and zip-lining excursions into the surrounding region.
