Matembezi Classic Camp - Southern Serengeti

Matembezi Classic Camp is a mobile tented camp in the Simiyu Region of the Southern Serengeti — meaning the camp moves, and on any given stay you will have no neighbouring camp within miles. Six large furnished tents make up the full camp, each with an en-suite toilet and hot shower. The dining is organised around a mess tent, with a private chef who cooks to guests' preferences, and a bar with free consumption included.

Because the camp is mobile, it can be positioned where the wildlife is rather than where a permanent structure was built decades ago. That flexibility is the central reason to choose this kind of camp over a fixed lodge.

The camp runs entirely on solar lighting. The kitchen uses gas fuel and bio-briquettes — both brought up from the Arusha base — with a gas fridge and freezer, and a generator kept on standby for emergencies. No open fires. On waste: compostable material is buried on site, and plastics and metals are carried back to Arusha for recycling. The camp's carbon output is measured and offset each year through a partnership with Carbon Tanzania.

Access is into the Simiyu Region of Tanzania, on the southern edge of the Serengeti ecosystem.
