Mbamba

The northern Okavango Delta shifts with the season, its floodplains and channels rising and falling under a private concession set aside for wildlife. Mbamba Camp sits within this ground, a Ralph Bousfield property with twelve canvas tents raised on wooden decks beneath a stand of large leadwood trees. Two family tents, four double tents and six twins share the same vintage safari look: mahogany sideboards, Persian rugs and four-poster beds, each with its own veranda and en suite bathroom. Air conditioning and mosquito netting keep the heat and insects out. Days move between land and water. Game drives cross the concession's floodplains, waterways and grassy savannah, home to birdlife, big cats and antelope. Boat safaris and, when water levels allow, mokoro trips move guests through lily-filled channels at eye level with the delta. A scenic helicopter flight, booked separately, shows the scale of the waterways from above; a helicopter-only trip to Tsodilo Hills brings guests to San rock art sites further north. Guides here work the concession daily and know its wildlife patterns well. Back at camp, there is a pool and a shared dining area for the hours between activities. Check-in runs from 2pm, check-out at 10am.
