Moorea Beach Lodge

Set directly on the sand at Haapiti, on Moorea's northwest coast, Moorea Beach Lodge faces a lagoon shallow enough for children and clear enough for reef fish to be visible from the shore. The property holds 12 bungalows, split between garden and lagoon views, plus a family bungalow built for up to five. Each is air conditioned, with a private bathroom, terrace and balcony. It is a small, low-built stay. Rooms run from 16 m² for the honeymoon bungalow to 90 m² for the family unit, and all sit within a short walk of the water. Kayaks and bicycles are free to guests, kept by the beach for anyone wanting to paddle out over the coral gardens just offshore or ride the coast road toward Papetoai. You can be in the lagoon within minutes of leaving the terrace, mask and snorkel in hand, watching for the blacktip reef sharks and rays that pass through the shallows. Breakfast is served lagoon-side each morning, with fresh bread, local jam and a choice of eggs. Car hire is available on-site for longer runs around the island, including the Belvédère lookout and the pineapple fields of the Opunohu Valley. Check-in runs from 1pm, checkout by 10:30am. The lodge functions less as a destination in itself than as a base from which the lagoon, the reef and the rest of Moorea are within easy reach.
