Golden Monkey Tracking

Golden monkeys, one of the world's rarest primates, live in the bamboo stands and forested gorges of Mgahinga National Park's volcanic foothills. The tracking walk starts low, moving through bamboo and forest, then climbs towards heath and moorland higher on the slopes. Guides lead trackers to a troop, identifiable by bright golden bodies, cheeks and tails set against black limbs and crown. The monkeys are active and social, often seen feeding and playing in the bamboo canopy. The route can be done from either the Ugandan or Rwandan side of the mountains, on foot, at a pace set by the terrain.
