Nhabanga Paradise
A self-catering base wedged between an ocean and a lagoon
White sand runs along the lagoon shore here, calm enough for children to swim without a second thought. Nhabanga Paradise sits on the strip of land between the Indian Ocean and the Uembje lagoon, just outside Bilene in Gaza Province, roughly 180 km north of Maputo. The setting does the work: still water on one side, open surf on the other, reached by a short drive or a ferry crossing.
Six chalets sleep four to eight guests, each with its own kitchen, air conditioning and en-suite bathroom; Chalet 6 stands just 30 m from the water's edge, with two en-suite bedrooms and a living area that doubles as extra sleeping space. The campsite spreads across more than fifty grass stands shaded by trees, each with power and tap water. Braai facilities come standard across the property.
Out on the lagoon, guests can canoe, kite surf, parasail or take a sunset boat trip; beyond the lagoon mouth lie reefs known for big game fish and, in season, nesting turtles. More than a hundred bird species work the shoreline, among them palm-nut vultures and flamingos. Restaurants and bars line the lakeshore a short walk from the chalets. It is a lived-in stretch of coast, not a manicured one, and that is largely the point.
