Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge

Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge sits at two thousand, one hundred and sixty-one metres on Nteko Ridge, on the southern edge of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. At that altitude the air is cool enough to need a fireplace at night, and on a clear day the Virunga Volcanoes are visible across the valley. The main lounge and dining building stands at the highest point of the property, with views in all directions over the forest canopy.

Fifteen rooms are spread across thirteen cottages: six deluxe garden cottages, two two-bedroom family villas, and five forest suites. The garden cottages cover forty-five square metres each; the forest suites run to ninety-eight square metres and include a private butler and a bathtub positioned to look out over the canopy. All rooms are built from locally quarried volcanic stone, with fireplaces, verandas, and solar power throughout.

The lodge is positioned for gorilla trekking in both the Nkuringo sector, where three habituated gorilla families live, and the Rushaga sector, which holds eight habituated groups. Guides also run walking safaris through the surrounding landscape and a cultural programme with the Batwa community in Buniga Forest, where the Batwa demonstrate traditional forest skills — fire-making, medicinal plant use, honey harvesting — passed down to their own children as well as shared with visitors.

The spa, activity desk, and restaurant are all on site. The lodge can arrange airport transfers and a private vehicle for excursions.
