North Island Okavango

North Island sits on a private island in the northern Okavango Delta — a section of the delta that receives the annual floodwaters first, which keeps water-based activities running for most of the year. The island is leased from the Magobagoba Youth Trust, and the lease income goes directly to education and employment projects in the villages that border the delta's northern edge.

The camp holds seven tented suites, each on a raised wooden deck beneath wild ebony trees and looking out over the lagoon. Every tent has its own plunge pool and sunken sundeck for cooling off, an indoor fireplace for cold winter nights, and an over-bed cooling unit for the hot summer months. Twin beds convert to doubles, and a sleeper couch in each tent fits two children.

Activities run on land, water, and in the air. Game drives go out morning and evening. On the water, guides pole mokoro through the lily-pad channels and take guests on motorised boat cruises where hippo, crocodile, and waterbirds are common sightings. Catch-and-release fishing is available from the mokoro. Scenic helicopter flights cover the wider delta, and a separate helicopter excursion reaches Tsodilo Hills — a World Heritage Site with more than four thousand San rock paintings — at an additional cost.

Access to the island is by light aircraft to a nearby airstrip, then by boat transfer to camp.
