Nothofagus Hotel and Spa

Named for the native Coigue tree, Nothofagus is a timber building whose form recalls branches reaching up through the surrounding forest canopy. Wood, stone and glass make up most surfaces inside, chosen to keep the interior close in feel to the wet forest outside. It anchors the wider building complex of the reserve, and many of its excursions and guided walks begin directly from the hotel. The hotel holds 55 rooms across four categories: Standard, Superior, Suite and Luxury Suite. Standard rooms run about 22 square metres on the lower two floors; Superior rooms, near 38 square metres with a small balcony, sit on the third and fourth floors. Suites occupy the fifth to seventh floors and add a whirlpool tub. The Luxury Suite is a duplex of 68 square metres, with a double bed below, a sitting room above, and views toward Mocho-Choshuenco volcano. You can hear the forest from the balcony on a still morning. Downstairs, the Nothofagus restaurant serves two dining rooms and a menu that mixes indigenous Mapuche cooking with dishes brought by later European settlers, built on ingredients sourced locally. The Lawenko spa adds heated and cold pools, wet and dry saunas, and an infrared relaxation room. Guided and self-guided trails, including routes to a volcanic cave and a deer enclosure, start from the property.
