Olakira is a mobile tented camp that relocates each season to keep pace with the wildebeest migration as it moves through the Serengeti. From June to October the camp is pitched in the Bolongonja area of the northern Serengeti, forty-five minutes by road from Kogatende airstrip. This position puts you close to the Mara River, where wildebeest and zebra cross back and forth in large numbers — crossings that typically begin in early July and run through to late October.

In the north, the camp holds ten tents and two family units. Each tent is built around a mesh enclosure over a wooden deck: the roof and walls are fine mesh rather than solid canvas, so you can lie in bed and look straight up at the sky. All tents have en suite bathrooms with solar-heated hot-water showers. The camp runs entirely on solar power with a backup generator, and provides battery-charging facilities.

Game drives go out in open vehicles. A private photographic vehicle, customised for camera work, can be booked separately. Hot-air balloon safaris operate in the area. The Serengeti holds more than seventy large mammal species and five hundred bird species; the northern plains in this season also carry lion, cheetah, leopard, and hyena alongside the migrating herds.

Children aged five and older are welcome. The camp closes in November.
