Olakira Migration Camp - South (Dec - Mar)

From December to March, Olakira Migration Camp sets up in the Ndutu area of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, on the southern plains where the wildebeest arrive to give birth. Up to a thousand calves are born each day at the peak of the season, and the concentration of predators — lion, cheetah, leopard, hyena — that follows makes for some of the most active game viewing in the Serengeti ecosystem. This is the southern position of a camp that moves twice a year to stay with the migration; the same camp operates from June to October in the northern Serengeti, where the herds cross the Mara River.

The southern configuration holds nine tents, one of which has two bedrooms for families with children aged five and older. Each tent is built around a mesh enclosure on wooden decking, so the canvas opens up at night to give a clear view of the sky from the bed — no need to go outside. En suite bathrooms have solar-heated hot-water showers; the camp runs entirely on solar power with a backup generator. Battery-charging facilities and wi-fi are available.

Game drives go out in open vehicles. A customised private photographic vehicle can also be booked for guests focused on photography. Hot-air balloon safaris are an option over the southern plains. Ndutu airstrip is a twenty-minute drive from camp.
