Onguma Leadwood Campsite

Onguma Leadwood Campsite sits inside Onguma Private Game Reserve, a thirty-four thousand hectare reserve that shares a boundary with Etosha National Park. Six individual campsites are set under mature leadwood trees, each fitted with its own private ablutions — including a dedicated shower and toilet — plus a wash-up basin and a power point. The sites are serviced daily.

Guests use the facilities at the neighbouring Onguma Bush Camp — restaurant, bar, and swimming pool — so the campsite gives you a canvas pitch in the bush without giving up a cooked meal or a cool drink at the end of the day. The campsite can also be taken on an exclusive-use basis.

From here you can enter Etosha on a self-drive — the park covers twenty-two thousand seven hundred and fifty square kilometres and is built around a vast calcrete pan — or join a guided game drive with one of Onguma's rangers. The reserve itself holds more than thirty animal species, over three hundred bird species, and four of the Big Five. Guided bush walks go out in the early morning with an armed ranger on foot.

For photographers and wildlife watchers, the Onkolo hide sits at water level with benches, windows on multiple angles, and a small ablution facility nearby. Star gazing is a practical activity at this latitude and in this darkness — there is very little light pollution on the reserve.
