Onguma The Fort

Onguma The Fort sits on the eastern boundary of Etosha National Park, inside the private Onguma Game Reserve — thirty-five thousand four hundred and eighty hectares of semi-arid savannah that holds over thirty animal species, more than three hundred bird species, and four of the Big Five. The lodge itself is built in the style of a stone fort, with raw walls, a central tower, and design details drawn from Moroccan and Indian sources: carved antique doors and windows, heavy stonework, and tile that sits oddly well against camel thorn trees and a calcrete pan.

Thirteen rooms are spread across three categories. Eleven Bush Suites and one Honeymoon Suite extend north and south of the main fort, each set at least fifty metres apart, with a fireplace, wood-fired hot tub, minibar, and both inside and outside showers. Every suite has a deck facing Fischer's Pan, which is part of the Etosha pan system and visible from almost every point on the property. The Sultan Suite occupies the first floor of the main tower and has a bath inside and a balcony over the waterhole.

Activities run both on the reserve and inside Etosha. Guided game drives enter the national park directly; sundowner drives cover the Onguma concession. The Onkolo hide sits at water level beside a waterhole, with low windows designed for photography. Armed rangers lead early morning bush walks on foot. A custom-built Land Cruiser with a full bathroom and sleeping deck is available for overnight sleep-outs under the open sky.

The main areas have a pool and free Wi-Fi. A resident massage therapist works on site.
