Origin Eco Chalets

Origin Eco Chalets occupies a century-old mango orchard on the hillside above Vainqueur, in the highlands of Rodrigues. There are four chalets — all adults only — each built in a rondavel shape with pine walls and a metal ceiling, a private veranda looking out over the valley, and a private swimming pool filled without chlorine.

Each chalet has a bedroom, bathroom, wardrobe, safe, mini-bar, and a tea and coffee corner. Bed linen, towels, and pillows are bamboo fibre, and the toiletries are made locally without synthetic chemicals. The property has run on solar panels since 2023 and uses only timber sourced from sustainably managed forests. Rainwater is collected for the property's water supply, and grey water is filtered and returned to irrigate the grounds.

The kitchen is open for breakfast — included in the room rate — as well as lunch and dinner, with both meals available to non-staying guests. Vegetables grow in an aquaponic greenhouse and a companion-planting kitchen garden on site; corn-fed chickens, sheep, and goats are kept outdoors on the property. Cooking is done over wood fire and barbecue. Sweet potato, fresh fish, breadfruit, red beans, and papaya form the core of the local menu. The kitchen also produces fermented drinks — kombucha, kefir, and ginger beer — in house.

The Grande Montagne Nature Reserve and the François Leguat giant tortoise park are both reachable from the property by road.
