Pangolin Chobe Hotel

Rebuilt over eleven months from an abandoned shell, Pangolin Chobe Hotel now stands on the plateau above the Chobe River, facing Namibia's Caprivi floodplains. The construction was led by Pangolin's own team, working long hours to turn a derelict structure into something built with purpose rather than convention. The result skips the usual thatch-and-timber safari formula. At its centre runs a wildlife photography gallery, hung with images from the hotel's resident guides and visiting photographers, each chosen to show a different technique or way of framing a shot. All fourteen rooms open onto it. An editing suite sits at the far end for guests processing their own pictures after a game drive. Rooms are en suite and air-conditioned, fitted with safes, tea and coffee facilities, and enough surface space and charging points for camera gear and laptops. Breakfast and most meals are served on the deck out front. From there steps lead down to a sunken fire pit, ringed by an eco pool, large enough to seat the full house before or after dinner. The bar above the deck looks out over the river and floodplains beyond. It is a compact stay, built around watching and photographing what moves along the water below.
