Pebane Beach Lodge

Pebane Beach Lodge is a fishing camp and lodge on the Indian Ocean coast of Zambezia Province, northern Mozambique, one hundred metres from the beach and two hundred kilometres north of the Zambezi River. The coastline here carries an extensive reef system — reason enough for big-game fishing to be what most guests come for.

You stay in en-suite cabins, some with showers and some with baths, fitted with mosquito nets. The lodge has a bar and communal dining. Beyond fishing, the water activities include catch-and-release fishing, boating, canoeing, scuba diving, snorkelling, and whale watching. Turtle tracking is also offered. Scenic flights are available for those who want to see the coastline from the air.

On land, guided walks take you into the mangrove forest that borders the coast. The town of Pebane is close: the local market trades cashew nuts and fresh catch, and dhows and makoros — the sea-going canoes used by local fishermen — work the water nearby. The town also has colonial-era buildings, churches, cemeteries, and a lighthouse that reflect its layered history.

There are no camera supply shops in Pebane, so bring sufficient memory cards and batteries before you travel.
