Pirika Rera Hotel is a six-suite property in Shiraoi Town, Hokkaido. Every room is a suite, furnished in a bright, spacious style and fitted with Wi-Fi, a TV, an iPad, a refrigerator, a Keurig coffee maker and a private bathroom. The hotel keeps its footprint small and its quiet deliberate. At the centre of the stay is Restaurant Repun, designed to evoke a chise, the traditional dwelling of the Ainu people, where a master chef prepares teppanyaki-style meals on a grill in front of guests. The menu turns with the seasons and draws on Shiraoi-gyu beef and local seafood and produce. Dinner runs in the evening and breakfast in the morning, both served in the same room. You can watch the chef work the grill course by course, an interaction as much a part of the meal as the food itself. Beyond the restaurant, the hotel draws on a natural hot spring, filled with unblended mineral water drawn from a moor spring source, alongside sitting areas meant for lingering rather than passing through. Guests must be at least twelve years old to stay. It is a compact hotel, built less for volume than for attention: six suites, one restaurant, one hot spring, run as a single quiet operation in a small Hokkaido town.
