Pom Pom

Set on an island ringed by a lagoon thick with hippo, Pom Pom Camp sits deep in Botswana's Okavango Delta on the Pom Pom Private Concession. Tall trees shade the nine walk-in tents, each raised on a wooden platform with a private deck facing the water. Leopards favour these same trees, and guides track them alongside spotted hyena on the open grassland and wild dogs hunting lechwe along the flooded margins. Game drives run by day and night, off-road, with a guide and tracker in the vehicle. When the floods rise, mokoro trips leave from the front of camp, gliding past painted reed frogs, African jacanas and malachite kingfishers. Motorised boat safaris cover more ground through the channels and lagoons, and fishing for African pike and bream is possible in season. Guided walks run year-round, weather and safety allowing. Rooms come in three types: the standard luxury tent, a family unit with two en-suite bedrooms, and a honeymoon tent with an outdoor bath and a king bed. Evenings gather around a firepit and bar near the pool and the main thatched building, with meals cooked to order by the camp's chefs. It is a compact, long-established camp built for travellers who want their Delta safari straightforward: big cats, water, and few distractions.
