Raffles Singapore

Raffles Singapore is an all-suite colonial hotel on Beach Road in the civic district, surrounded by towers it comfortably predates. The building was declared a National Monument in 1987 and most recently restored in August 2019. You stay in one of one hundred and three suites, each with a private verandah, living area, ceiling fans, and butler service. Tropical gardens cover more than a quarter of the estate; birdsong carries from them to the upper floors.

Fifteen restaurants and bars operate on the property. The Long Bar, now in the Raffles Arcade, is where Hainanese bartender Ngiam Tong Boon created the Singapore Sling in 1915. The Tiffin Room has served tiffin curry since 1910. The Bar and Billiard Room carries the story of the last tiger shot in Singapore — found under the building in 1902.

The hotel first opened on 1 December 1887, built by the Armenian Sarkies brothers as a ten-room property; two major restorations followed, in 1989 and 2019. A resident historian, Leslie Danker, has been at Raffles for more than fifty years. The Raffles Arcade connects to North Bridge Road and holds independent retail alongside the hotel's own boutique.

City Hall Station and Esplanade Station both serve the hotel on the MRT. Changi Airport is sixteen to twenty-one minutes by taxi.
