Royal Zambezi Lodge sits on the bank of the Lower Zambezi River inside the Lower Zambezi National Park, which holds designation as an Important Bird Area with over three hundred recorded species. The lodge has fifteen tented suites — eight Deluxe and seven Presidential — each built on a canvas and thatch frame under mature trees, with the river visible from the verandah.

Deluxe Suites have extra-length sprung mattresses, cotton linen, and down pillows. Presidential Suites add copper baths, outside showers, private plunge pools, and shaded day-beds; these are the suites the lodge uses for honeymoon bookings and special occasions. Two adjacent Deluxe Suites share an outside lounge and are reserved for families with younger children.

The activity programme runs on both land and water. Game drives use open vehicles; guided bush walks and night drives cover the same ground at a slower pace and lower angle. On the river, the lodge runs canoe trips — one or two passengers per canoe with a guide — as well as motorised river cruises and fishing for tiger fish, which reach ten to twelve kilograms in the Zambezi. A game-viewing hide is available on site.

The lodge has its own tarred airstrip, Royal Airstrip, a five-to-ten minute drive from camp. Scheduled seat-in-plane charters operate between Lusaka and the airstrip, making the journey around thirty minutes. A bush spa, pool, bar, restaurant, and library complete the on-site facilities.
