Guided by Samburu warriors from arrival to departure, guests track elephants, lions, and rare northern species across two hundred thousand acres of Kalama Conservancy, a community-owned reserve bordering Samburu National Reserve. Saruni Samburu is one of two lodges in the conservancy. Ten villas stand on a hillside viewpoint above the land, each with a private verandah facing Mount Kenya in the distance. The honeymoon villa is built around natural rock formations on the hillside edge. Two family villas can be taken as separate units or as single homes. Standard villas hold one bedroom, a living room, and an outdoor shower. Two infinity pools occupy the upper and lower sections of the property.
Morning and afternoon drives depart into Kalama Conservancy and Samburu National Reserve. Night drives track nocturnal species within the conservancy. Walking safaris lead to caves holding Samburu rock art drawn centuries ago. Breakfast is served along the Ewaso Nyiro River, and dinner moves to a dry riverbed beneath the stars. The Samburu Wellbeing Space offers massage treatments using traditional techniques and local plant extracts. A ground-level photographic hide sits at a waterhole for close wildlife photography. Guests can visit Reteti Elephant Sanctuary, the first community-owned elephant sanctuary in Africa, or trek Mount Ololokwe, the Samburu sacred mountain. The Warriors Academy is an interactive programme for families to learn tracking, fire-making, and Samburu customs. Helicopter excursions reach Lake Turkana and the slopes of Mount Kenya.
