Satao Camp

Satao Camp sits inside Tsavo East National Park with a direct view over a waterhole that draws elephant, giraffe, zebra and buffalo throughout the day. The camp holds twenty canvas tents shaded by tamarind trees, each with its own veranda and enough privacy that the tent next door does not intrude on the view.

Two tent types are available. Standard tents have twin or double beds — extra beds can be added for families — a standing fan, complimentary drinking water, and an en-suite bathroom with a safari-style shower and flush toilet. Suite tents sit closer to the waterhole and carry a king-size bed with the same option to add extra beds; from the veranda of a suite tent, animals at the water are directly in front of you.

Game drives go out into Tsavo East's open plains, a landscape of old baobabs, golden grass and distant rocky outcrops. Tsavo's elephants carry a red tint from the park's iron-rich soil — a reliable sighting on most drives, alongside lion, buffalo and a wide range of birdlife. The camp also offers bird watching on site.

Meals are served in an open-air dining area. The kitchen accommodates vegetarian requirements, and the bar and restaurant operate with generator power. The team speaks English, German and Swahili.
