Serengeti North Wilderness Camp

Serengeti North Wilderness Camp is a seasonal, ten-tent camp in the northern Serengeti, placed close to the Mara River crossings where wildebeest and zebra move during the migration. The camp relocates with the herds to stay within reach of productive game-viewing ground.

The ten canvas tents are each ten metres by four metres, well spaced for privacy, and furnished with an ensuite bathroom — vanity basin, gravity-fed shower, and toilet. Each tent has a verandah with both an open and a netted sitting area, so you can use it at any hour. Tea or coffee is brought to the tent in the morning before you move. The camp runs entirely on solar power; the showers draw from a solar water-heating system that also limits water use.

Game drives go out in customised Land Cruisers fitted with bean bags and charging ports for photographers. On the Mara River, a crossing — wildebeest pushing into the current and crocodiles holding below the surface — is the event the camp positions itself to reach quickly. Hot-air balloon flights over the northern plains are available as an off-site activity; they launch before dawn and end with a bush breakfast.

A portion of each night's stay goes into a Sustainable Tourism Fund that supports the Serengeti De-snaring Programme and the Kilimanjaro Tree Project. The camp also holds a bar, laundry service, and complimentary internet access.
