Simbavati Fynbos on Sea
Simbavati Fynbos on Sea sits on a headland above the town of Sedgefield, inside a 600-hectare private fynbos reserve. The position is the defining fact of the place: to the north, the Outeniqua Mountains and the lagoons of the Garden Route; to the south and east, the Indian Ocean and the sandy sweep of Goukamma Beach; to the west, dense fynbos that flowers most visibly in spring and early summer. The town is far below.
Nine rooms and a separate self-contained cottage sleep guests across four room categories. Three Classic rooms have king or twin beds and views over either the mountains and lagoon or the fynbos and ocean, each with French doors onto a garden seating area. Luxury Suites face the fynbos and ocean. Superior Suites add a double vanity, indoor and outdoor shower, and a private terrace. The Two-Bedroom Superior Suite has an upstairs loft, a bath, and a private deck. The Fynbos Cottage stands apart from the main lodge with two en suite bedrooms, a loft sleeping area, an open-plan kitchen and living space, and a private splash pool facing the ocean. Children eight and older are welcome in the lodge rooms; the cottage is open to all ages.
On the reserve, guided and self-guided fynbos walks, 4x4 nature drives, and visits to a protea farm run from the property. Eland, zebra, bushbuck, and waterbuck move through the reserve. The activity centre arranges kayaking and canoeing on the Swartvlei and Sedgefield lagoons. Tandem paragliding departs from Gericke's Point. The kitchen serves all meals using locally sourced ingredients prepared on site. A pool and bar are part of the main lodge.
George Airport is approximately forty-five minutes away by road.
