Canine Unit Experience
A visit to the Sabi Sand Canine Unit's base camp, where guests join a senior handler to watch how the dogs and their trackers work. The animals are trained for several roles, from chasing down intruders to detecting rhino horn and ammunition hidden in vehicles or luggage. Guests take part in a live tracking exercise alongside a dog and its handler, seeing the training methods up close. Groups are kept small, between two and six people per session, and a donation of ZAR5,000 per person goes toward funding the programme. It gives a rare look at conservation work rarely seen by visitors.
