Sossusvlei Lodge

Sesriem is where the Namib Naukluft Park opens onto Sossusvlei, and Sossusvlei Lodge sits right at that boundary, close enough to reach the red dunes, the black trees of Deadvlei and the walls of Sesriem Canyon without a long drive. It is a compact base for a big landscape. The lodge holds 51 rooms across Superior Units, Standard Family Units and a Junior Suite, the last with its own terrace and small splash pool looking over the desert plains. Superior rooms have twin beds, a corner couch and a patio facing the dunes and the ridges of the Naukluft Mountains; two are fitted for wheelchair access. In the evening, the terrace looks over a floodlit waterhole where oryx, springbok, jackal and ostrich pass through after dark, visible from the restaurant and the beer garden alike. A pool shaped around the Southern Cross constellation sits near the bar, with cabanas for shade during the heat of the day. The Adventure Centre runs guided trips to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei in all-terrain vehicles, sunrise walks on Elim Dune, canyon excursions, scenic flights and hot air balloon safaris over the dune sea. Rooms carry no Wi-Fi by design; it is available instead at the bar, pool and conference centre. Check-in runs from 2pm.
