Sussurro sits on a lagoon in Inhambane Province, in the south of Mozambique. The property is built in Mozambican vernacular architecture — timber, thatch, and large open apertures that let the water and light into each room. The bungalows are the core of the stay: each is over a thousand square feet, with indoor and outdoor bathing facilities, a waterfront verandah, mosquito nets, and furniture carved and assembled on site. Walls are hung with artisanal pieces collected from across sub-Saharan Africa.

On the water, Sussurro keeps a fleet of three dhow sailboats. These are traditional lateen-rigged wooden vessels, and going out on one — for a sailing trip, a picnic, or a fishing run — is the activity most specific to this place. The property also offers kayaking, scuba diving, whale watching, catch-and-release fishing, and self-guided walks along the shore. Massages are available on site.

Back at the property, there is a lap pool, a beach, a restaurant, a cocktail bar, a library, and a gallery. The bungalows include complimentary Wi-Fi, a safe, tea and coffee facilities, dressing gowns, pure cotton linen, and complimentary laundry service. The property has charging facilities and is accessible by wheelchair. An airport shuttle is available on request.
