Tena Tena

Tena Tena sits on a double-tiered bank of the Luangwa River in the Nsefu Sector, a remote and exclusive part of South Luangwa National Park. Six safari tents stand under a grove of mahogany trees, each with a private view across a long stretch of the river. The camp is the first that Robin Pope Safaris opened, and it remains part of that operator's portfolio today.

South Luangwa covers nine thousand and fifty square kilometres in the valley where the Great Rift Valley reaches its southern limit. The Luangwa River runs through it, feeding ox-bow lagoons, tributaries, and open plains that hold elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, giraffe, and hippo in large numbers. More than four hundred and fifty bird species have been recorded across the park.

From camp you go out on game drives, night drives, and guided walking safaris — the Luangwa Valley is one of the places where the walking safari was developed as a form of game viewing, and guides here work on foot as well as by vehicle. A game-viewing hide is available at the camp itself. A cultural tour into the surrounding area can also be arranged.

Mfuwe is the nearest town and airstrip. The camp provides a complimentary airport shuttle from Mfuwe.
