Time + Tide Chinzombo

Chinzombo sits on a bend of the Luangwa River inside South Luangwa National Park, with the national park directly across the water. The camp holds six villas — five standard and one two-bedroom family unit — built from canvas, timber and reed, with leather and raw linen inside. Each villa has a private plunge pool, a soaking tub, a shaded verandah, and air conditioning for sleeping. The family villa sleeps up to five guests and is positioned along the tree line overlooking the river.

Two game drives run daily in open four-wheel-drive vehicles, with no more than six guests per vehicle. Night drives extend the afternoon outing. Walking safaris are part of the programme — the tradition in the Luangwa Valley goes back to the 1950s, when Norman Carr established Zambia's first photographic safari operation here. Boat safaris run seasonally on the river. A spa operates in camp, with treatments using products made from plants and produce sourced locally around Mfuwe. The camp also offers sleep-outs on the riverbank, available at an additional cost.

Chinzombo is open year-round and is the largest and most fully equipped of the Time + Tide camps in South Luangwa — the others at Mchenja, Kakuli, Luwi and Nsolo operate on a seasonal schedule and close in the wet season. Transfers from the local Mfuwe airport are included in the rate. A private vehicle and guide can be arranged at extra cost.
