Time + Tide Chongwe Suites

Time + Tide Chongwe House sits on the Chongwe River at the edge of the Lower Zambezi, a two-storey, four-bedroom, four-bathroom private house that takes the whole property as a single booking for groups of four to eight. The building uses river pebble as a surface detail and carries furniture carved from a fallen winterthorn tree — materials that come directly from the landscape around it. Each bedroom has an open-air bathtub and a waterfall shower. A large pool and both indoor and outdoor lounge and dining areas fill the rest of the house.

Elephants cross the Chongwe in front of the house. Fish eagles call from the trees. A resident group of warthogs keeps the grass short on the bank. A wildlife hide near the house is used for photography and watching nocturnal animals after dark.

The activity list is long: game drives in open four-wheel-drive vehicles, walking safaris, night drives, canoeing safaris, boat cruises on the Zambezi, guided walks, kayaking, and tiger fishing — the Lower Zambezi holds tiger fish, a hard-fighting species prized by anglers. Three hundred and seventy bird species have been recorded in the area, and lions, leopards, and wild dog move through the concession. The Chiawa Cultural Village, a community-owned enterprise run in partnership with the Goba people of Chiawa, is available as an off-site visit.

The kitchen works to a tailor-made schedule, arranging meal times around the group's activities, and uses local and seasonal ingredients. A dedicated guiding and staff team is assigned to each stay. Airport transfers are complimentary.
