Tor's Camp

Tor's Camp occupies a strip of riverine forest along the Olare Orok River, set well within the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Seven tents sit on raised wooden platforms, each sheltered under an extended fly sheet and spaced apart for privacy beneath the canopy. The Topi pride — said to be the largest lion pride in this part of the Mara — ranges through the area, and you can hear hippos moving through the river at night from your bed.

The tents come in two configurations: double tents with one large bed, and family tents with one double and two singles. Both have open en-suite bathrooms with modern plumbing — the walls are low enough that the forest stays in your line of sight while you wash.

The mess tent is open on all sides and serves as the social centre of the camp: three-course dinners, drinks, a fire after dark. The camp has WiFi and accepts credit cards. Hot air balloon safaris can be arranged as an addition to the standard game-drive programme.

Your private guide meets you at the airstrip or park gate on arrival and shapes each day around wildlife movements and your own pace. The Sand River area is one of the further destinations guides take guests to explore, offering different habitats from the forest around camp.
