Travessia Beach Lodge

Travessia sits between a coastal palm forest and the dunes of the southern Mozambique coastline in Morrumbene District, Inhambane Province. The lodge has five casas in total: four Deluxe King or Twin rooms of thirty square metres each, and one Family Suite of around forty-five square metres that sleeps four, or five with an extra bed. All rooms stand on raised timber decks with thatched roofs and roll-up canvas walls, each with a hammock, mosquito nets, open-plan bathroom, separate toilet, and an outdoor shower. The family suite has a hundred-and-eighty-degree sea view and two sleeping areas divided by a canvas wall. The lodge runs entirely on solar power.

The beach in front of the property is largely empty outside the occasional passing fisherman. Guests use single-gear Mozambikes — made by a Maputo company — to ride along the shoreline at low tide when the sand firms up. Kayaking and boogie boarding run off the beach. The guided bush and village walk goes through cassava fields, past baobab trees, and into the local village, including the pre-primary school. Ocean safaris, scuba diving, and snorkelling are available through operators at Tofo, reached on a day trip. Massages using organic coconut oil are offered on your private deck.

The restaurant looks over the palm grove and the sea. The lodge is accessible from both Vilankulos and Inhambane, and an airport shuttle is available on request.
