Trekking Abraão – Pico do Papagaio
Abraão – Pico do Papagaio Distance: 12,000 meters (round trip) Level: Highly inclined ascent and descent Physical fitness: Heavy Duration: 6 hours (round trip) Orientation: Difficult Attractions: Streams, wild animals, viewpoints, climbing.
From Pico do Papagaio (959 meters) above sea level, it is possible to see a good part of the coastline of Ilha Grande and the mainland. Depending on the visibility, it is possible to see the entire extension of Restinga da Marambaia, Pedra da Gávea in Rio de Janeiro, Dedo de Deus in Serra dos Órgãos and Pico do Frade in Serra da Bocaina.
However, reaching the top of this viewpoint is not easy at all. The trail is tough, with 6 kilometers of climbing all the way and on the way back, the descent is no less tiring and your knees suffer from the impact.
If you are a mountaineer, there are two bolted routes from the base to reach the summit.
Do not hike this trail after noon to avoid the risk of returning in the dark. Having a guide is essential for everything to go well. Many people have been lost for days and needed to be rescued by Civil Defense.
