Tu Lan Lodge

Opened in November 2022 by Oxalis Adventure, Tu Lan Lodge was built to answer a simple local fact: Tan Hoa village floods most years. The lodge sits on a slope above the valley floor, raised 12 to 15 metres above the road, in ground that regularly takes on 6 to 8 metres of water each October. Its ten Mountain Bungalows, each 48 square metres, were the first phase, finished that same year. A second set, the River Bungalows, followed on a design borrowed from local flood-proof floating houses: the entire structure, plumbing included, lifts with the water rather than fighting it. Ten more rooms, run as Rural Homestays inside villagers' own houses, extend the same idea into the community, funded by Oxalis and staffed by local families. Limestone ridges ring the valley on every side, and grassland runs out from the property towards the Rao Nan River. The restaurant looks over that river and the fields beyond it, and serves food cooked by residents of the village. Guests can cycle or walk out among grazing buffalo, or watch cloud drift along the ridgeline at dawn. It is a working answer to a working problem, not a resort dressed up as one.
