Victoria Falls Horse Safaris
Victoria Falls Horse Safaris runs two types of outing from the Minor Hotels Resort near Victoria Falls: trail rides on horseback into Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, and horse-drawn carriage tours around the resort grounds.
The trail rides use twelve dedicated ponies — among them King's Glory, Storm, Treacle, and Tamarind — trained to stay calm around wildlife, including elephant. The trails pass through dry bushveld with reasonable bird-watching along the way. Rides are offered at three lengths: a thirty-minute pony ride for children, a two-hour trail, and a half-day outride that ends with lunch in the resort's herb garden. The weight limit for all riding is one hundred kilograms. Riders of any level are welcome — first-timers as much as confident riders.
The carriage rides run two Victorian-style vehicles finished in Royal Blue, each driven by a coachman who also acts as a guide to the resort and its surroundings. The carriages are designed for comfort and give a higher vantage point than walking the same ground. They are suited to anniversaries and other occasions where a slower, more deliberate pace is part of the point.
Both activities depart from the Minor Hotels Resort. The National Park trails offer the chance — not the guarantee — of seeing elephant and other game en route.
