Villa Kampung Kecil

Reconstructed piece by piece from central Java and reassembled in Sanur, each villa at Kampung Kecil began life as a traditional Javanese home. Villa Solo once stood in Kota Solo; Villa Demak came from Kabupaten Demak; both now sit under new roofs with their original hand-carved teak beams and antique tiles intact. The property keeps seven such villas, ranging from a 50 m² one-bedroom studio to a 135 m² two-bedroom house, arranged around a shared garden and a central swimming pool. Villa Yogya follows Joglo proportions and holds a granite bathtub carved from a single block of volcanic stone. It is a heavy, deliberate object in a light room. Every villa keeps its own kitchen, sitting room, and veranda, so a family can cook and eat without leaving the garden. Bedrooms open onto en-suite bathrooms finished with local stone and timber, and most terraces face either the pool or a private lawn. Antiques gathered from across Indonesia furnish each room differently: carved doors, old ikat textiles, four-poster beds. Semawang Beach lies a short distance away, and the hotel arranges a one-way airport transfer for longer stays. Bicycles are free to borrow, first come, first served. The result reads less like a hotel than a small hamlet of old houses, each one restored rather than replaced.
