Villa Malaika

The terrace is the point of the room. Villa Malaika is a small hotel on Jambiani beach, on Zanzibar's south-east coast, built low and close to the sand so the sea stays in view from bed. Rooms open onto private terraces with sunbeds, and several look straight over the water. Rates include breakfast at the on-site restaurant, which serves local and international dishes alongside a garden and pool shaded by palms. The tide governs the days here. At low water, sandbanks stretch out and local fishers work the flats for seaweed and shellfish, visible from the terraces. At high tide, the sea returns to a few metres from the rooms, and swimming is straightforward. Sea temperatures run around 33 to 35 degrees Celsius. Staff run daily housekeeping and can arrange safaris, spice tours, and trips to Stone Town through licensed local operators. An on-site manager handles day-to-day requests, and an airport transfer can be arranged on request. Jambiani village sits just behind the property, with its own rhythm of daily fishing and market life. It is a compact stay, built for slow mornings and a short walk to the water.
