von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort

Set on a 2,600-acre ridge above Stowe in Vermont, the lodge occupies land the von Trapp family purchased in 1942. The property opened to guests in 1950 in a 27-room structure; a fire in 1980 led to the current 96-room alpine building. The family still owns and operates the resort. Ninety-six rooms and suites fill the main lodge with king or queen beds, mountain or orchard views, and most with private or shared balconies. Nordic rooms measure 300 square feet and hold one king bed. Edelweiss rooms run to 350 square feet and accommodate either a king bed with queen sleeper sofa or two queen beds. Suites span 480 to 1,026 square feet; the Maria Suite includes a separate bedroom, whirlpool tub, wood-burning fireplace, and wet bar. All rooms have Keurig coffee stations, mini-refrigerators, flat-screen televisions, and climate control. Ten guest houses and villas stand apart from the lodge. Each guest house holds two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a wood stove, and a full kitchen. Three-bedroom villas measure 2,500 square feet and include stone fireplaces and dining areas. Cross-country ski trails, snowshoe routes, and mountain-bike tracks thread the acreage. Tennis courts, pickleball courts, indoor and outdoor pools, a fitness centre, and a sauna anchor the grounds. Von Trapp Brewing runs tours of its on-site lager brewery. Staff arrange fly-fishing outings, guided hikes, and carriage rides through the property.
